About Me

Self-Taught Man

History

Late 2012 was the first time I came to the (admittedly fairly obvious) realization of how much computer software runs our lives. Everything from our computers, to our phones, to the ATM that dispenses that most precious of commodities, money. They were all run on some kind of code. I also realized that if I was going to have the complete skill set of the 21st century professional, I was going to need to learn how to write code. So I did what any millennial would do to learn a new skill. I turned to the internet. While the internet was very helpful, I realized I had no practical experience in software development. So I turned to my good friend, Dr. Doug Kavanagh.

If you don't know who Dr. Kavanagh is, he co-founded CognisantMD, a company that created Ocean Platform which places patient forms in Android Tablets. I asked him to assign me a project from his company so I could use the skills I learned in a practical way. After I completed that project, he was so impressed, that he asked me to do more projects for him and I accepted.

After 4 years of doing various part time work on multiple EMR's and other platforms, I realized that software development was what I wanted to do full time. So I quit my 9 to 5 job and started Marc Carvalho Consulting.

Since then, I have worked on projects for the Canadian Diabetes Association, Thrombosis Canada, The Institue of Safe Medical Practices Canada and various other groups.
